In the Media: Carnegie Grant Could Enable Bill Moyers to Return to PBS

The Carnegie Corporation of New York’s board has given preliminary approval to a $2-million grant to the production company led by the broadcast journalist Bill Moyers, signaling a possible return to the air for the longtime PBS fixture, according to The New York Times.

The former White House aide and longtime host of “Bill Moyers Journal,” who retired from weekly television last year, said his company is considering a new series but has not finalized any agreements with either potential supporters or with PBS.

Susan King, a Carnegie spokeswoman, said the foundation envisioned the new show as a forum for bipartisan debate on major issues, such as education and immigration, but she added that the grant is not yet final.

In other media news, the nonprofit newsroom the Center for Public Integrity announced plans for a new Web site devoted to investigative reporting, says The New York Times.

The site, called iWatch News and set to debut April 12, will feature 10 to 12 original articles daily, produced in-house or in collaboration with other groups such as the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, as well as content from other media.

The center said it will experiment with an advertising-based revenue model for the new site, with ad-free paid subscriptions available for smartphones and tablet computers.
