Indiana Poised to Strip Money for Planned Parenthood

A bill before Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels would make his state the first in the nation to eliminate government aid to Planned Parenthood, NPR reports.

Mr. Daniels, a possible Republican presidential candidate, is expected to sign the measure, which is backed by anti-abortion-rights groups. He said women seeking the type of reproductive-health services provided by Planned Parenthood would have other options, including community health centers and rural clinics.

Betty Cockrum, president of the national nonprofit group’s Indiana arm, said such facilities won’t be able to handle the patient load if Planned Parenthood is no longer able to provide free services to thousands of low-income women.
