Junior League Seeks to Change Image

After losing a fifth of its members, the Association of Junior Leagues International is reframing its mission with the hope of attracting the next generation of volunteers, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Delly Beekman, the organization’s new board president, says she plans to turn the century-old charity from a genteel women’s social organization into a powerful movement by changing the way the organization recruits, retains, and serves members.
Ms. Beekman’s plans include moving away from a focus on individual volunteer activities to advocating on important issues such as sex trafficking and childhood obesity.
