Lafayette College Alumnus Gives $28-Million for Science Center

A Pittsburgh executive has donated $27.9-million worth of stock to Lafayette College to erect a new building for the eastern Pennsylvania institution’s biology and computer science programs, reports the Allentown Morning Call.

S. Kent Rockwell graduated from the Easton, Pa., campus in 1966 with a degree in economics and is in his second stint as a Lafayette trustee. He was a director of the now-defunct industrial giant Rockwell International, which was founded by his grandfather, and has led several manufacturing and technology firms.

The donation is among the largest ever to the 187-year-old college, which does not formally rank its gifts. Previously, the F.M. Kirby Foundation has given Lafayette more than $30-million in multiple installments.
