Little-Known Okla. Tycoon Spends Billions to Fight Poverty
September 22, 2011
George Kaiser, who has built a $10-billion empire in energy and finance while zealously guarding his privacy, is just as quietly giving his fortune away to fight poverty, Forbes writes.
Working largely in his hometown, the Tulsa, Okla., native has put $4-billion into the George Kaiser Family Foundation, which works to break cycles of poverty by investing in efforts such as education, health care, and economic opportunities for low-income families and female ex-convicts.
Forbes profiled Mr. Kaiser and his giving as part of its annual report on the 400 wealthiest Americans (among whom he ranks No. 31).
