Longtime Head of D.C.’s Meyer Foundation to Step Down

Julie Rogers, a pillar of the Washington, D.C., philanthropic community for nearly three decades as president and chief executive of the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation, announced Tuesday that she will leave her post in a year, The Washington Post says.

Since 1986, when Ms. Rogers took over leadership of the foundation, founded by the late Post publisher Eugene Meyer and his wife, it has distributed more than $153-million in grants and more than quadrupled its assets to $210-million. Local nonprofit leaders credit her with helping organizations serving low-income communities develop and establishing strong ties among charities, donors, and government and business officials.

Ms. Rogers, 62, said she will remain involved with the foundation but that “after 28 fabulous years, it is just time to give yourself room to explore different interests and other ways of serving and giving back.”
