Major Massachusetts AIDS Charities to Merge

Two of Boston’s most prominent AIDS organizations announced Thursday that they are joining forces in a merger that links key providers of health and social services for patients, The Boston Globe reports.
The union has been approved by the boards of AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, which connects AIDS patients living on the social and economic margins with housing, transit, and other services, and treatment-focused Fenway Health. Fenway serves about 22,000 patients, AIDS Action some 6,800 clients.
The groups will remain individual nonprofit entities, retaining their own names and offices, but will have a single corporate structure, with Fenway’s board assuming financial responsibility for the new entity. Fenway and AIDS Action officials said the “strategic partnership” will help them streamline services and share costs in a time of declining state funding and rising caseloads as people live longer with the disease.
