Marcus Foundation Gives $20-Million for Atlanta Heart Center

The Marcus Foundation has donated $20-million to Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital to establish a first-of-its-kind facility for the treatment and study of heart-valve problems, says The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Marcus Heart Valve Center will enable the hospital’s Piedmont Heart Institute to attract top valve specialists and perform up to 400 valve-repair procedures annually, compared to 50 over the past years. “This is a dramatic investment,” said Sidney Kirschner, the institute’s president and CEO.
The Marcus Foundation, headed by Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, has donated extensively to medical facilities in the chain’s Atlanta home and elsewhere, most recently awarding $25-million to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, in Florida, for a center on brain disorders.
