Mass. Senate Approves Limits on Nonprofit Board Pay

The Massachusetts Senate has approved legislation to require the state’s nonprofit organizations to get the attorney general’s approval to pay their board members, reports The Boston Globe.

The measure was included in the Senate’s version of the state budget bill, which was passed Thursday and now goes to a legislative conference committee.

The measure arose from a proposal backed by Martha Coakley. Massachusetts’ attorney general, following a public outcry over five-figure stipends for directors of the state’s four nonprofit health insurers, two of which voluntarily suspended board compensation.
