Mexican Billionaire Finds Challenge in Ambitious Health Campaign

A fledgling international health project backed by the world’s richest man, the Mexican telecommunications mogul Carlos Slim, has scaled back its original goal of covering all of Latin America, writes The Seattle Times.

The Carlos Slim Health Institute is now concentrating its efforts on chronic disease, maternal and child health, and medical education in Mexico and Central America, a representative of the group said this week at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health meeting in Seattle.

The Times writes that Mr. Slim, much like Bill Gates, has found a greater challenge in tackling global health problems than in building a business empire.
