MIT Alumnus Donates $24-Million to Increase Enrollment

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology alumnus has pledged $24-million to help the university increase undergraduate enrollment, The Boston Globe writes.

The gift from Fariborz Maseeh, a businessman, will allow the university to increase the student body by about 250 students starting in 2015, bringing the undergraduate population back to its mid-1990s level of about 4,500.

“Our world and especially our nation need more MIT graduates,’’ said Mr. Maseeh, who earned a doctorate in civil engineering at the institution in 1990 and went on to found electronics and investment firms and a philanthropic outlet, the Massiah Foundation. An MIT dormitory will be renamed in his honor.
