M.L. King Heirs and Memorial Foundation Deny Falling Out

The family of Martin Luther King Jr. and the nonprofit organization in charge of building a Washington monument to the slain civil rights leader are denying published reports that they are feuding over use of the King name, writes USA Today.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday that the King estate had revoked the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation’s right to continue using that name. The charity, now called the Memorial Foundation, led fundraising for construction of the King statue on the National Mall and remains responsible for its upkeep.
Tricia Harris, a consultant who has worked closely with the King family, and Harry Johnson Sr., the Memorial Foundation’s president, told USA Today that both sides agreed years ago that the foundation would drop the King name once the monument was built. Mr. Johnson said the change took effect a year ago.
