Motion Picture Academy Names First African-American Leader

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Hollywood nonprofit organization that awards the Oscars, announced Tuesday that marketing executive Cheryl Boone Isaacs will serve as its next president, The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times write.
Ms. Boone Isaacs, a 21-year member of the academy’s Board of Governors, will be the first African-American leader in its 86-year history and the first woman to hold the post since 1983. She is a former executive at movie studios New Line and Paramount and currently heads CBI Enterprises, a marketing consultant on film releases.
