New Generation Taking Up Mantle of Grass-Roots Activism

Public-television show Moyers & Company highlights the work of 19 post-baby boomers taking leadership roles with grass-roots groups tackling civil rights, social and economic justice, and environmental issues.

“Like the change makers who came before them, these activists know that the radical ideas of one generation are often the common-sense ideas of the next,” writes Peter Dreier, head of the Urban & Environmental Policy Department at Occidental College, who compiled the list. “They are practical idealists.”
