New Round of Staff Cuts Made at Arizona Jewish Charity

For the second time in 20 months, the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix has laid off a significant chunk of its work force, citing a major fund-raising shortfall, the Jewish News of Greater Phoenix writes.
The charity let eight of its 15 employees go last week. Six full-time positions had been eliminated in March 2009.
The federation’s 2010 annual campaign had taken in $3.1-million so far this year, down from $4.2-million in 2009 and more than $6-million in 2007. “There comes a time when the economy’s effect on the campaign reaches a point that it has a significant adverse effect on our resources,” Steve Gubin, chairman of the federation’s board said.
