Israeli newspaper Haaretz profiles 10 foreign philanthropists who have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into education, the arts, social services, and diaspora outreach efforts in the Jewish state.

The list includes Seagram’s heir Charles Bronfman; the late Perrier founder Gustave Leven, the Cleveland businessman Mort Mandel, Britain’s banking Rothschild family, and Lynn Schusterman, the billionaire widow of oilman Charles Schusterman. The article notes how the donors made their fortunes and the Israeli foundations and institutions they support.

According to Haaretz, diaspora Jews donate an estimated $2.7-billion a year to Israeli organizations and causes.
