Obituary: Edie Wasserman, 95, Half of Hollywood Giving Power Couple

Edie Wasserman, the widow of the entertainment mogul Lew Wasserman and one of Hollywood’s most active philanthropists, died Thursday of natural causes at age 95, writes the Los Angeles Times.

Leading lights in Hollywood’s social and power structure, the Wassermans were also key donors and fund raisers, particularly for the Motion Picture and Television Fund, which cares for aging and ill show-business veterans. The couple was instrumental in raising $50-million for the fund in the 1980s, and its Los Angeles campus is named for them.

The couple also paid for scholarship programs at six major universities and supported Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Los Angeles venue the Music Center, among other causes.
