Obituary: Evelyn Haas, Bay Area Arts Patron

Evelyn Haas, head of one of the Bay Area’s leading charitable foundations and a major benefactor of San Francisco’s symphony and modern-art museum, died Wednesday at age 92, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Ms. Haas was the widow of Walter Haas Jr., a former Levi Strauss & Co. chief executive, and with him owned the Oakland Athletics from 1980 to 1985. Their Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund contributed more than $364-million to neighborhood and cultural organizations in the region, and Ms. Haas served for decades on the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art boards.
