Obituary: William Henningsgaard, Philanthropist and Microsoft Executive

William Henningsgaard, a philanthropist and former sales executive at Microsoft, died with his teenage son in a small-plane crash on Friday, says The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Henningsgaard and his son were scouting out colleges on the East Coast.

In 2001, Mr. Henningsgaard founded Eastside Pathways, a charity that aims to give children in the Seattle area more health and education opportunities.

And after he left Microsoft in 2002, he became chairman of the board of the Microsoft Alumni Foundation, which encourages former employees to give to charities. The foundation honored Mr. Henningsgaard as an “integral fellow” last year.
