Oxfam Suspends Haiti Workers for Alleged Misconduct

The global relief charity Oxfam said Monday that it has suspended a portion of its Haiti staff over misconduct allegations, AlertNet reports.

The organization provided few details, saying the move affected a “small number” of its workers in Haiti but declined to specify the nature of the allegations or whether they involved local staff members or those who come from other countries.

Jen Corlew, a spokeswoman for Oxfam, said the charity wanted to be “transparent that this is going on” but determined that “issues of security and reputational risk” to the suspected workers prevented further disclosure pending completion of an internal investigation later this month.

The organization launched am investigation of its Pakistan operations in June after discovering a financial irregularity in its flood-relief work there.
