Penn State Engineering Receives Anonymous $10-Million Gift

Penn State University has received a $10-million donation to link engineering research with that of other disciplines and to recruit and retain top faculty and students.

The anonymous gift, announced Wednesday, is thought to be the largest since the university was engulfed in a sex-abuse investigation involving a former assistant football coach, says the Associated Press.

Rodney Kirsch, a Penn State senior vice president, said the school first got word of the possible gift in early November and that the donor was not fazed by the scandal that erupted Nov. 5 when ex-coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with sex abuse. Mr. Kirsch said donations since then have been “running pretty much even” with last year’s levels.
