Penn State Reportedly to Pay $60-Million in Sandusky Claims

Penn State University trustees have approved about $60-million in payments to settle 25 of the more than 30 claims by men who say they were molested by ex-assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, The Wall Street Journal writes, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The university said Friday that it had reached tentative settlements with some alleged victims but did not disclose amounts or the number of cases. A Penn State spokesman declined to comment Wednesday.

Mr. Sandusky is serving a 30- to 60-year prison term following his conviction last year of molesting 10 boys while working at Penn State and The Second Mile, a youth charity he founded that used university facilities. Sources told the Journal the payments will vary based on the nature of the abuse, how long it continued, and whether it occurred on the Penn State campus.
