Philanthropist Removed From University Board by Governor

South Carolina’s Governor, Nikki Haley, has removed the financier and philanthropist Darla Moore from the University of South Carolina’s board and replaced her with Tommy Cofield, a lawyer, writes The Post and Courier.

Ms. Moore is the university’s largest benefactor and its business school is named for her. She gave the university $25-million in 1998 and $45-million in 2004. She tied for No. 25 on The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s 2004 Philanthropy 50 list of the most generous donors.

A spokesman for Ms. Haley said she removed Ms. Moore in favor of a “fresh set of eyes.” Ms. Moore and Mr. Cofield did not comment on the change in the newspaper.
