Planned Parenthood Wins Court Battle Over S.D. Law

Planned Parenthood, which went to court to challenge a South Dakota abortion law, won a reprieve as a federal judge on Thursday blocked a law that imposes the longest waiting period in the nation at 72 hours and a meeting at an anti-abortion counseling center before a woman can have the procedure, Reuters reports.
The ruling came as two Planned Parenthood clinics refused licenses by the Kansas health department—the Center for Women’s Health and Aid for Women—plan today to ask a federal judge to block the state of Kansas from enforcing new licensing requirements.
The Kansas legislature passed a law setting out tough requirements for operating a clinic performing abortions, but the clinics are asking the judge to find the new rules to be unreasonable and imposed on unfairly short notice.
