Podcast: Why Local Social Networks Matter to Nonprofit Groups

May 6, 2010 | Read Time: 1 minute

Location-based social networks such as Foursquare continue to grow in popularity. As they do, nonprofit groups are wondering how they can jump on the bandwagon.

Joe Waters, director of cause and event marketing at Boston Medical Center, recently offered a great primer on the topic for nonprofit communicators.

Today, we’re happy to point to another new resource — a podcast by Allison Fine for The Chronicle that delves into Foursquare, Yammer, and other local networks.

As part of the discussion, Ms. Fine talks with Danielle Brigida, the social-media coordinator for the National Wildlife Federation.

Ms. Brigida has done some experimenting in these spaces and offers some great ideas for others in the field who’d like to use these networks.
