Pop Star Gaga Teams With Harvard, MacArthur on New Foundation

Superstar singer Lady Gaga is joining forces with Harvard University, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the California Endowment and on a new organization to promote youth empowerment and fight bullying, writes the Associated Press.

The flamboyant Grammy winner announced plans Wednesday for the Born This Way Foundation, named after her most recent album. The singer, who has used her high profile and social-media popularity to address bullying and gay rights, said the group will work on promoting self-confidence, well-being, and career development for young people.

The California Endowment, MacArthur Foundation, and Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society are partners on the project. Dr. Bob Ross, president of the endowment, said Lady Gaga’s effort “will help empower and give voice” to isolated, bullied, or abandoned youth. “This brand of leadership is sorely needed in today’s world,” he said.
