Princeton U. Professor to Lead New America Foundation

Anne-Marie Slaughter, a Princeton University politics and international affairs professor and author of a 2012 magazine article that fueled a national debate on the difficulties women face in balancing their family and work lives, has been named president of Washington policy institute the New America Foundation, writes The New York Times.

Ms. Slaughter, who also held a ranking policy position at the State Department from 2009 to 2011, will replace journalist and author Steve Coll at the nonprofit think tank. Mr. Coll is stepping down to become dean of Columbia University’s journalism school.

Ms. Slaughter’s article in The Atlantic magazine, “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All,” examined the dearth of women in top corporate and government roles and argued that the American workplace has failed to adequately support working mothers. She told the Times that her new job “is flexible” and will allow her to have breakfast and dinner with her two teenaged children.
