Producer’s $30-Million Matches Biggest Gift to Hollywood Charity

Movie producer Steve Bing has contributed $30-million to the Motion Picture and Television Fund, pushing the charity for entertainment-industry veterans past the three-quarters mark in its current $350-million campaign, Variety reports.
Mr. Bing’s gift equals the largest donation to the drive launched six month ago by the fund, which provides health care, social services, and other aid to Hollywood retirees. Media mogul Barry Diller gave $30-million in June.
With Mr. Bing’s gift, the fund has collected $280-million since February. The charity has been rebuilding since January 2009, when it announced plans to close its nursing home and acute-care center for financial reasons, a proposal that raised an outcry in the show-business community and has since been reversed.
