Prominent U.K. Politician Leaving Parliament to Lead Aid Charity

David Miliband, Britain’s former foreign secretary and the brother of the country’s opposition leader, is quitting politics to become executive director of the International Rescue Committee, The Guardian and the Mirror report.

Mr. Miliband, a member of Parliament since 2001 and Britain’s top diplomat in the Gordon Brown administration, will step down immediately to take what the Mirror, quoting a source close to the politician, termed his “dream job” leading the New York-based humanitarian agency.

Mr. Miliband’s political future has been a matter of much speculation in London since he was narrowly defeated by his brother, Ed Miliband, in the race to succeed Mr. Brown as head of the Labour party after its 2010 election defeat.

Mr. Miliband will succeed George Rupp, who announced in February that he planned to step down.
