Records Show Jane Fonda’s Foundation Made No Gifts for Years

Jane Fonda’s charitable foundation did not make any donations or grants for several recent years running, the New York Daily News writes, citing tax filings published by open-records Web site the Smoking Gun.

The charity’s 2011 return listed its most recent allocation as a $1,000 contribution in 2006 to an Atlanta medical organization. According to the filing, the foundation’s portfolio was valued at $798,133 in 2011. Most of its income was donated by the Oscar-winning actress and fitness guru.

Foundations face Internal Revenue Service penalties if they fail to distribute at least 5 percent of their assets each year. Barry Hirsch, Ms. Fonda’s lawyer, said the organization was legally exempt from making donations between 2006 and 2010 because it gave away “a ton of money” in 2005.
