Rupert Murdoch’s Firm Gives $20-Million to Hollywood Charity

The Motion Picture & Television Fund announced on Wednesday a $20-million donation from News Corp., the global media giant headed by Rupert Murdoch, says the Los Angeles Times.
The News Corp. gift is the second major media-industry contribution to the charity since it launched a $350-million campaign earlier this year to support its work providing health and social services to retired entertainment-industry workers. Entertainment mogul Barry Diller and his wife, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, gave $30-million to the fund last month.
The fund drive is aimed primarily at maintaining the organization’s Woodland Hills, Calif., nursing home for show-business veterans, which it had previously planned to close.
“The MPTF is vital to the long-term health of the entertainment industry and provides crucial support to many valued members of the creative community,” Mr. Murdoch said in a statement. News Corp. holdings include Fox Broadcasting and the 20th Century Fox movie studio.
