Salt Lake City Experiments With Donation Meters

Salt Lake City has started to place donation meters throughout the city’s downtown areas, allowing people to give spare change to the homeless through the meters rather than to panhandlers on the street, reports the Deseret News.
Money collected in the meters will be given to organizations in the city that serve the homeless through the Pamela J. Atkinson Foundation.
The meter installation comes four months after the Salt Lake City Council put on hold a proposed ordinance that would have regulated when, where, and how panhandlers in the city could ask for money.
