Scottish Aid Worker Killed in Afghanistan

A Scottish aid worker died Friday during an attempt by U.S. forces to rescue her from captivity in eastern Afghanistan, according to the BBC and the British daily the Independent.
Linda Norgrove of the American humanitarian group DAI was kidnapped September 26 in a remote and mountainous part of Kunar Province. Six kidnappers were also killed in the raid.
David Cameron, Britain’s prime minister, said Monday that it appeared she was killed by a grenade thrown by U.S. troops during the rescue effort. A joint British-American investigation is now under way, the Guardian reports.
