Smithsonian Chief G. Wayne Clough to Step Down Next Year

The Smithsonian Institution announced Wednesday that Secretary G. Wayne Clough will retire as head of the world’s largest museum complex in October 2014, The Washington Post reports.
Mr. Clough joined the Smithsonian in July 2008 after 14 years as president of Georgia Tech. During his tenure, the institution broke fundraising records, drawing $233-million last year, and implemented a wave of institutional changes, including numerous digital efforts and groundbreaking on the National Museum of African American History and Culture, due to open in 2015.
In an interview with the Post, the 71-year-old secretary said he might pursue writing or return to academia after his departure from the Smithsonian.
