Social Programs Seek Ways to Cope With Federal Budget Cuts

The federal budget cuts known as sequestration are hitting home for social-service and other groups nationwide, with many groups struggling with layoffs and service reductions, writes The New York Times.

In many areas, early-education Head Start programs are implementing austerity measures, and university-based cancer centers fear promising research will be held back as a byproduct of the $85-billion in automatic spending cuts.
