Sportsmen’s Charity Takes Role in Fighting Gun Restrictions

A pro-hunting and -fishing charity with close connections to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus has served as a key ally of the firearms industry in battling restrictions on gun rights, according to The New York Times.

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation , a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1989, is not formally affiliated with the caucus, which includes 250 House and Senate members, but states as its mission providing “advice, support and information” to elected officials on conservation and wildlife management.

The National Rifle Association and major makers of guns and ammunition are the foundation’s leading donors. The charity opposes gun-control measures in Congress and regularly hosts fundraisers and other events at which industry leaders rub shoulders with lawmakers.
