Stanford U. Alumnus Gives University $151-Million

Silicon Valley real-estate developer John Arrillaga donated $151-million to Stanford University last week, the largest gift to the California school by a living donor, writes The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Arrillaga, a Stanford graduate, gave the university $100-million in 2006 and has also helped the university construct numerous campus buildings, including a new football stadium. His daughter, Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen, teaches courses on philanthropy at Stanford’s business school and has written extensively on giving.

The Journal article does not specify how Mr. Arrillaga’s new gift will be used. The previous record individual Stanford donation was $150-million in November 2011 from investment mogul Robert King and his wife, Dorothy, to launch an institute for business innovation in developing economies.
