Support for Water Charities Grows
December 28, 2011
Providing clean, accessible water to the poor in developing countries has emerged as one of the hottest giving trends of the holiday season, according to USA Today.
Using online appeals, holiday catalogs, and celebrity-studded social events, groups such as Charity: Water and actor Matt Damon’s Water.org have raised the issue’s profile to compete with hunger and disease for donations.
Faith charities have also played a role in the boom, as more churchgoers witness the problem firsthand on short mission trips to the developing world.
