Tech Nonprofit Expands Computer-Programming Curriculum

A Seattle nonprofit group plans to implement its computer-science education programs at 30 school districts around the country in the fall, reaching more than 2 million students, says The Seattle Times.

Code.org, will provide training and mentorship for teachers during summer workshops and participating districts will teach Code.org’s free courses in elementary, middle schools, and high schools in the fall. The effort aims to reach more than 2 million students, or nearly 5 percent of all K-12 students in the country.

The project’s initial push will cost about $1-million and is supported by tech titans like Google, LinkedIn, and Microsoft. Hadi Partovi, one of the nonprofit’s co-founders, is a former Microsoft manager.
