U. of California Names Manager for President’s New Home

The University of California has appointed an official to manage President Mark G. Yudof’s new residence after Mr. Yudof ran up nearly $700,000 in expenses in his previous rented mansion, The Bay Citizen reports on the New York Times Web site.

Upon his hiring in 2008 Mr. Yudof moved into a 16-room house in Oakland rather than occupying Blake House, the traditional residence for the university’s president, which is in need of repairs.

The Bay Citizen reported this week that rent and work on the Oakland home cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and entangled university officials in time-consuming disputes with the property’s owner.

Mr. Yudof and his wife moved in June to a new, smaller residence, management of which will be handled by a university official who oversees three other facilities for the institution.
