U. of Miami Football Receives Gift 35 Years After Pledge

The University of Miami collected a $4.2-million gift to support football scholarships Thursday, 35 years after the donor made the pledge and nearly three decades after her death, the Palm Beach, Fla., Sun Sentinel says.

Payment of the bequest by department-store heiress Mary B. Hecht, who died in 1982, could not be made until the recent passing of her estate’s income beneficiary, the university said.

The gift, which Ms. Hecht specified in her will 35 years ago, is the largest endowment ever for Hurricanes football scholarships.
