U.K. Bus Depot, Greek Graves Among Monument Fund’s ‘At-Risk’ Sites

A modernist bus station in Britain, the oldest cemetery in Athens, and a box-shaped building amid midtown Manhattan’s skyscrapers are among 67 places on the World Monuments Fund’s new list of the world’s most endangered heritage sites, Reuters reports.
The latest edition of the nonprofit preservation group’s biennial World Monuments Watch stretches across 41 countries and includes ancient sites such as the Nasca lines, a series of geoglyphs in the Peruvian desert, as well as modernist structures like the former Manufacturers Trust Company Building in New York and the Preston Bus Station in England, once the world’s largest bus depot but now slated for demolition.
The sites on the list have significant historic or cultural value but are threatened by neglect, badly managed tourism, or environmental or economic factors, according to the fund.
