Update: Bronx Nonprofit Leader Gets 10 Months for Embezzlement

The executive director of a nonprofit Bronx housing organization was sentenced Friday to 10 months in prison for embezzling more than $50,000 from the agency, the New York Nonprofit Press reports.
Margarita Villegas pleaded guilty to diverting funds from the SBCC Management Corporation for personal purchases, phony cash reimbursements, and campaign contributions and other benefits for unnamed elected officials.
Ms. Villegas, who was indicted in June 2009, retains her leadership position with SBCC, which manages two residential buildings for low-income, elderly, and disabled tenants. Richard Izquierdo Arroyo, the organization’s director and the nephew of New York City Councilmember Maria del Carmen Arroyo, is scheduled to be sentenced on similar charges later this week.
