Update: Palin Was Paid $75,000 for Speech at Calif. Campus

Sarah Palin received $75,000 for her controversial speech last month at California State University, Stanislaus, the Associated Press writes.

Officials with the cash-strapped school’s foundation, which drew intense criticism for contracting the former Alaska governor to address a gala marking the campus’s 50^th anniversary, had refused to divulge her fee until last Friday.

The flap renewed debate over state disclosure laws that exempt public universities’ nonprofit arms and led California Attorney General Jerry Brown to start a probe of the Stanislaus foundation’s finance.

Ms. Palin’s appearance also reaped sizable donations for the school, which has had to cut classes and cancel scholarships in the wake of California’s budget crisis.
