Vermont Mulls Disclosure Exemption to Allow Anonymous Gift

Vermont’s state colleges are pushing a bill before the State Legislature to exempt some gifts from public-records laws, says The Burlington Free Press.
The University of Vermont and the Vermont State Colleges system say they need the change to guarantee anonymity to donors who request it and maintain competitiveness in the arena of higher-education fund raising.
The bill, which has cleared the State Senate and is scheduled for a House vote Tuesday, allows for disclosure of the amount and purpose of the contribution. The donor would be permitted to remain anonymous unless he or she “transacts” business with the recipient institution within three years of the gift.
