Vodafone Drops Fees on British Text-Message Gifts

July 7, 2010

Vodafone has become the first British cellphone operator to pledge that 100 percent of donations made by text message would go to recipient charities, reports Third Sector Online.

British phone companies typically take processing fees of 5 to 20 percent of the value of text gifts, according to the country’s Charities Aid Foundation, and Vodafone had been charging 10 percent. British nonprofit organizations have been lobbying the industry to drop the fees.
