Wealthiest Asian Donates $130-Million to Israeli University

The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology has received a $130-million gift from Li Ka-shing, Asia’s richest man, to launch a new campus in the Chinese billionaire’s hometown of Shantou, according to Bloomberg and the South China Morning Post.
The donation from the Li Ka-shing Foundation will establish the Technion Guangdong Institute of Technology, a collaboration between Haifa-based Technion and Shantou University.
Technion and the foundation said the new campus will begin offering undergraduate programs next year in civil and environmental engineering and computer sciences, and will host an innovation center to foster ties between industries in Guangdong province, where Shantou is located, and Israel’s booming technology sector.
