Zionist Charity to Expand With $60-Million Estate Gift

The Jewish National Fund, founded in 1901 to purchase land in Palestine for what became the State of Israel, has received the largest donation in its history, a $60-million bequest from a California builder who lost his family in the Holocaust The Jewish Week writes.
The fund said Thursday that it will use the gift from the estate of John Boruchin to establish a Center for Zionist Education and Advocacy as part of its mission to support Israel through education, development, and preservation of the country’s land and water resources.
A native of Poland, Mr. Boruchin made his fortune developing tract housing in California. His bequest accounts for nearly half of the charity’s 2013 campaign, which raised $121-million.
